His Name…The Mighty God

When it comes to Jesus in today’s world, I think this name, the Mighty God, is least accepted.

“For a child will be born to us, a son will be given to us; And the government will rest on His shoulders; And His name will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Eternal Father, Prince of Peace.”
— Isaiah 9:6 NASB

It is such a contrast to what the Jewish nation believed about when Messiah was to come. They expected a conquering king and mighty warrior. So much so, they missed the prelude to His kingship—the suffering servant.

We in western Christianity seem to operate in just the opposite: We see Christ as the suffering servant, whose love is endless and who died for us; yet, the knowledge of Him being the Mighty God is not readily embraced.

In fact, there are those believers who fail to embrace that the Lord’s wrath is just as real as His love and that His might is just as strong as His humility.

O, to rekindle the fires of His greatness to this generation,

“Great is the LORD, and highly to be praised, And His greatness is unsearchable. One generation shall praise Your works to another, And shall declare Your mighty acts.” – Psalms 145:3, 4

O, to sing the powerful praises as did the Psalmist,

“On the glorious splendor of Your majesty And on Your wonderful works, I will meditate. Men shall speak of the power of Your awesome acts, And I will tell of Your greatness.” – Psalms 145:5, 6

O, to truly grasp the reality of Jesus, the Mighty God, who is coming again in unmatched power!

“Then the kings of the earth and the great men and the commanders and the rich and the strong and every slave and free man hid themselves in the caves and among the rocks of the mountains; and they *said to the mountains and to the rocks, ‘Fall on us and hide us from the presence of Him who sits on the throne, and from the wrath of the Lamb; for the great day of their wrath has come, and who is able to stand?’” – Revelation 6:15-17 NASB

“Who is the King of glory? The LORD strong and mighty, The LORD mighty in battle. Lift up your heads, O gates, And lift them up, O ancient doors, That the King of glory may come in! Who is this King of glory? The LORD of hosts, He is the King of glory. Selah.” Psalms 24:8-10 NASB

The Mighty God is the King of Glory!
