Searching For the New

Culture is constantly evolving, and the evolution found in changing times will know no end until the end of time.

One by-product of this evolution is the constant looking for and subsequent overwhelming hunger for the new: the newest phone; the latest fashion; and finding that innovative company to invest in. It is a by-product that leads to a lust for the newfangled, but, as with any lust, it will never be fulfilled.

However, there is a new thing that does fulfill completely.

In fact, its newness is not reliant on future upgrades, designs, or innovations; rather, it was given several thousand years ago.

It began with a prophecy:

“Behold, the former things have come to pass, Now I declare new things; Before they spring forth I proclaim them to you” (Isaiah 42:9 NASB).

Continued with a birth:

“And behold, you will conceive in your womb and bear a son, and you shall name Him Jesus. “He will be great and will be called the Son of the Most High; and the Lord God will give Him the throne of His father David” (Luke 1:31-32 NASB).

And concluded with a resurrection:

“and as the women were terrified and bowed their faces to the ground, the men said to them, ‘Why do you seek the living One among the dead? ‘He is not here, but He has risen. Remember how He spoke to you while He was still in Galilee,’” (Luke 24:5-6 NASB).

Christ is the ultimate new though He was given years ago.

Yet, there is more.

The Ultimate New gives us the ultimate new…too:

“Moreover, I will give you a new heart and put a new spirit within you; and I will remove the heart of stone from your flesh and give you a heart of flesh” (Ezekiel 36:26 NASB).

Outside of Him, there is nothing new to seek and no new trend to lust after. He is the only new worth searching for and the only new that lasts forever.

Indeed, it is a new that can be found and a new that always satisfies!
