The Sound of Going

One of my favorite worship songs is Surrounded (Fight my Battles) by Michael W. Smith.

It is my constant reminder that spiritual battles are not mine alone, but His as well. Yet, there are still those times I fall trap into battling on my own with its resulting, and many times resounding, defeat.

And then, I ask myself, “When will you ever learn?”

I think the Lord asks Himself the same question about me—will he ever learn? Yet, in His grace and mercy always bolsters me with another Scripture making me stronger for the next battle that comes my way.

This time it was 1 Chronicles 14:15,

“And it shall be, when thou shalt hear a sound of going in the tops of the mulberry trees, that then thou shalt go out to battle: for God is gone forth before thee to smite the host of the Philistines” (emphasis mine).

Oh, to have the discipline and spiritual maturity to wait and hear the sound of Him going before me.

Oh, to have ears to hear.

Ears to hear!?!

What! How often did the Lord say that when He visited with His disciples? (Actually, eight verses in the Synoptic Gospels—Matthew, Mark, Luke—and though some may be in the same context, it is there none-the-less).

Eight verses.

Evidently, I am in good company with that admonition (smile).

And, by-the-way, so are you.
